So far, this novel is a vastly different process than the last one. That's not to say that it's better or worse, it's just
different. A little more challenging in that I have a lot fewer things up front to work with, but I'm finding an unexpected freedom in that, too. I had five years to think about the last one. I knew exactly who was in it, where it was going, how it ended. Some unexpected things happened while writing it, yeah. But this story is already so different.
The "accidents" I've made with this novel have been cooler than anything I've intended so far. I keep pulling names out of my head, and they end up meaning something totally fitting or awesome - and it's totally a fluke. Then, I made my main character interact with the guy next to her, just for the sake of not having all internal dialogue. This character has just made himself the third most important person in the story, now. Totally not planned. Even though I changed my main character's name, I managed to come up with a rhyme and a reason for my title, which had the original name. I am so accidentally awesome.
I love it. I love writing, and I love NaNoWriMo.
